Whether you’re working from an office or you’re working from home, staying productive all day can sometimes feel like a major task in and of itself. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to maintain your productivity and start crossing off your to-dos at long last.
Keep Things Cool
One of the most unfortunate circumstances plaguing the modern office worker is the thermostat. It seems that only the elite can touch it and it never seems to be set high enough or low enough to appease everyone. However, if you are able to do so, adjusting the temperature a few degrees will make the office cooler and may even help you stay focused on your work. According to Cornell University research, employees were less than half as productive when the office was set to 77 degrees Fahrenheit than they were when the thermostat was set to 68 degrees.
Ditch the To-Do List
Creating to-do lists with boxes to check off may seem like a good idea to help you power through the list and do what needs to be done. However, research suggests that the best way to get things done is to ditch the to-do lists and do the things that are meaningful to you. You’ve probably noticed that in your personal life, you’re more likely to take part in activities that mean something to you: you enjoy them, they bring you some type of benefit, or something else. To get more done, simply find ways that the things you need to do to keep your job make life meaningful.
Eat Your Breakfast
If you really want to be productive during the day, make sure to eat a good breakfast. Going to work with a rumbling stomach means you’ll be apologizing to uncomfortable coworkers for the extra noise all day, in addition to having a harder time staying focused. Some of the world’s greatest minds—Beethoven and Victor Hugo, for example—couldn’t set to work without eating something.
Staying productive at work, no matter your physical location, is important for many reasons. You’ll feel better at the end of the day about what you got done, and you’ll be a more valuable employee or contractor to your supervisors and your clients. These key tips will help you make the most of your workday and have an ultimately more fulfilling life.
